General information

Andy Szabo (June 2003): Perforated metal should be easy to obtain, in fact, the selection can be bewildering if one knows where to look. In the US at least, a good source is McMaster-Carr, an industrial distributor. There are many styles in plain steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum. For safety's sake, these panels should be painted or powder-coated for shock protection. Naturally, all the sizes listed are in "inch" dimensions.I don't know what material is most commonly used. I'm thinking plain steel might be best, as it is cheap, easy to cut, and pretty rigid. Stainless steel would be the most corrosion resistant, but difficult to cut using typical DIY methods. Brass and aluminum are easy to cut, but are more expensive, and might not be rigid enough unless quite thick.
