Introduction

I've had a DIY project (the ESL III) published in Silicon Chip, an Australian electronics magazine. This design comprises of three elements in a curvilinear array. As published it is very simple, using mechanical techniques to control frequency response rather than placing electronic components in the signal path. It is also a no compromise design with zero shunt capacitance and very thin stators. Performance is very good indeed.

I also do the initial esl panel designs and prototyping for a speaker manufacturer based in Melbourne, which then are integrated into commercial designs. At present there are four designs available, 2 full range and 2 hybrid. We are looking for distributors in Asia, Europe and the USA.

From time to time I've carried out repairs on many old or obsolete ESL's such as the Quad 57's, B&W DM 70, Stax etc. The experience gained here and during the design processes, may be useful to members.

I can also supply various components for building your own ESL's.

Personal background

I operate two companies, namely- RNM Consultants - This one puts the bread on the table. Consulting to the legal and insurance professions for tyre related litigation and accident reconstruction etc. Also contracting to tyre manufacturers as a field engineer for mining tyres (you know, the BIG ones that cost around 35,000 US each). The area I work in is China and Indonesia.

E R Audio - This is a hole into which I throw money! R&D work on ESL's, ESL III kit supplies, components, repairs and advice. (Advice is usually free)

The "In Room" photos are of the ESL III, the blue background photo is from the sales brochure for the commercial speakers. The very rough, unfinished hybrid, is the prototype for the ELS4, the left hand speaker on the blue background. As you can see, the enclosure has been changed for a more pleasing design. I'll sign off now.
