General information
Roel Townsend (August 9, 2006): I believe Clarke Systems made a variety of speakers, sold under their own name and also sold as house brands for companies like Leiser Superstores. All of their speakers I have seen were made of formica (rather than vinyl) on partical board, for better acoustical properties. Drivers were good quality but not exotic, and their designs were mainstream but more thoughtful than many -- their Precedent range, for example, had transmission line loaded midranges. combined with acoustic suspension woofers, the line acting as a cabinet brace as well as the line.
The company was run by two partners. One of the gentleman from Clarke, John Sollecito, is still in South Windsor, CT making speakers. He's chief designer at a company called Source Speakers
