General information
The Goodmans Magnum K is a dynamic speaker. It was manufactured from 1970 to unknown.
Mike Irving (October 9, 2005): Magnum K2 Threeway infinate baffle system.12" woofer.Made in England.4-8 ohm 40w
Paul Burgess (July 24, 2009): Crossover frequencies 1500Hz and 6000Hz. Claimed frequency range 30Hz to 20,000Hz. Maximum power 25W. Infinite baffle enclosure.
Adam Birchenall (September 2, 2009): 25W maximum power, more like 150W. I also have a pair of wharfedale mach 3 speakers of power handling 100W and my pair of goodmans magnum k outputs more bass and loudness.
Refurbishing
Mike Irving (October 9, 2005): I've removed the front cover and added an extra baffle, the mid and tweeters have been moved, originaly they were diagonal and each cab a mirror. Also had to replace the tweeters.
Paul Burgess (July 24, 2009): The back panel is very hard to remove as it is a very tight fit and the sealing material turns into a rock hard glue over the years. I had to remove all the screws, inject methylated spirits into the fine gap around the panel to soften the sealer and use for a few months with the screws out. Eventually the pressure and vibrations from using the speakers just popped the back panels out. This has to be done as the drivers and front fabric cover are fastened from the inside. If the L-pads are scratchy their plastic bodies can't be opened and cleaned and need to be replaced with new 15Ohm L-pads.
Adam Birchenall (September 2, 2009): Hello, i have a pair of magnum k goodmans loud speakers. i've had them for over 8 years bought second hand. i painted them black to match my Hi-Fi, i also removed and bought new tweeters and mid range speakers in which sound more better than the original ones because it lacks the treble. When i did this it took me 8 hours to connect it correctly due to wiring and splitters ect. Inside the back of them is a yellow thick foam, and a large magnet at the back of the 12" bass speaker. To me these are very loud and the power output it holds must be high. for as long these shall last i will not replace these heavy solid pair.
Modifications
Mike Irving (October 9, 2005): Uprated internal wiring with OFC cable
Reviews
Mike Irving (October 9, 2005): I can't give a review on the original as I modified mine, but I use a budget system including a JVC AX-2 amplifier and a PanasonicDVD S-49 DVD-A player. They give a neutral sound a very taught resonably fast bass.Nothing fancy about the vocal(although the mids are in need of repair)and treble provided by an Audax softdome tweeter
